Rouge Kiosk - Thanks!

Thanks to the MCMBA and SCA volunteers who invested their time and talents to finish the map Kiosk at Rouge Park last Sunday. These kiosks provide a solid anchor for each of our chapter trailheads - a place for riders to meet and to learn about area events and the trail. They also represent a significant investment of chapter funds into our trails in a very visible project that our land manager partners appreciate and value.

Thank you for your time and membership! You make projects like this possible.

Forage at the Farm - Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for participating in our first MCMBA Progressive Breakfast at Lakeshore today! I think the brisk morning temperatures may have scared a few away, but those with the fortitude to brave 45 degree temps enjoyed some awesome treats and camaraderie.

Our volunteers hosted eight stations throughout the trail: Coffee, Pancakes, Juices, Bacon/Sausage, Fruits, Pastries, Eggs, and Desserts. The treats and homemade specialties that our volunteers contributed added a tasty (and personal) touch that we all appreciated. I know that I have a new appreciation for PBR mixology!

While considering the cholesterol in the 16 lbs of bacon that we consumed, please enjoy the following photos (Thanks Claudia and Mike!)

Forage at the Farm!

As Summer winds down, has the same old Sunday Morning brunch at the country club becoming a bore? Looking for something new, spending quality time with people who share your interests and won't look down their noses at your spandex attire?

Join us for the 1st annual Forage at the Farm! progressive breakfast at Lakeshore Park, sponsored by the Motor City Mountain Biking Association. Assorted beverage, breakfast and brunch food stations will be found on the trail throughout the park.

What will you find? Will it be Mimosas in Maru's Way? Crepes in the Crater Loop? Pancakes in PBR? Will you be overcome by the scent of frying bacon wafting through the Swamp Loop???

There's only one way to find out!

Sunday, October 7th, Lakeshore Park in Novi. Starts at 9 until everything's devoured.

No cost to participate, but donations gratefully accepted. Registration not required, but please let us know if you're coming so we know how much to prepare.

Forage at the Farm

This year we'll be locating our brunch delights in the pavilion near the trailhead kiosk to make the event a bit more family friendly. You'll be able to sample everything even if the youngsters aren't up to 10 miles of singletrack. And yes, there will be bacon.

Ride and eat, eat and ride, eat and run - it's entirely up to you!

No cost to participate, but donations gratefully accepted. Registration not required, but please let us know if you're coming so we know how much to prepare.

Food, friends, farm. Can it get any better than that?

Chapter Meeting - Call to action!

Several times a year, the Motor City Mountain Biking Association hosts a meeting to allow our board leaders, our trail coordinators, and our members to socialize, to share updates, and consider decisions that affect our chapter. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept 10th at 7:00 pm at:

Ashley's Beer & Grill
7525 Wayne Rd. at Westland Mall.
Westland, MI , 48197
(734) 525-1667

The proposed agenda for this meeting can be found here.

Traditionally, the third meeting of the year includes nominations for board positions for the next year, with the elections occurring during the December meeting. Our current board members were elected under our previous bylaws as an MMBA chapter, but our current bylaws (adopted when we became an IMBA chapter) describe different board position roles and responsibilities, longer term durations, and an different election process. This election cycle will be the first time that we chose a board based on the new bylaws.

I'm very proud of our accomplishments over the last 9 months. We've worked together to manage change in becoming an IMBA chapter while maintaining our great relationships with our land managers and partner organizations. Our combined membership is strong, and we represent more mountain bikers than ever. Our financial health is excellent, and we're well positioned for our future trail development needs. Our volunteer base is strong - 35% of our members have logged volunteer work this year - and our trails are in awesome shape.

And yet there is work that we have not yet done, such as resurrecting the Trail School to help teach the next wave of trail leaders and coordinators. We have a large territory with the potential for trails that we are not pursuing. Our membership could perhaps double in size, if we reached out to our user group. There is so much more than can be done. Things we have not thought of. That's where you can come in.

The new board structure includes room for more participants to help share the responsibilities, plus a number of our current board members would like to step back from their leadership positions to make room for new ideas, new energy, new leaders for tomorrow. Please consider becoming one of these leaders, using your time and talents to help carry MCMBA even further down the path of excellence.

If you would like to participate but are unable to attend this meeting, we'd like to hear from you. As always, you can email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or see our website contacts page to contact us individually.

Hope to see you there!
