New bridge at Highland

The DNR and MCMBA joined forces this last weekend on a project to replace an old bridge on the Highland Recreation Area trail. Bridge work this time of year is a cold, wet, messy business...

but the end reward is worth it! The new completed bridge is high and dry and looks great!

Thanks team!

It's trail day season again!

It's been a long, cold winter, and we can't wait to get riding! In the daylight. Without studded tires. Without Moose Mitts and frozen toes.

Once again this Spring, the MCMBA is hosting a series of trail days at our area trails. These trail days are a great time to clean up winter deadfall, work on special projects, and generally get the trails ready for the summer riding season.

Working on a trail you love to ride can be very rewarding. If you haven't participated in a trail day before, we have a small FAQ with helpful tips.

Our traildays are announced on our Events page, in Facebook group, and our Michigan Mountain Biking Association forum. Please join us if you can!

Detroit Bike City

It was great to see everyone at  http://www.detroitbikecity.org/ !  There was a lot to see at the show this year, and we signed up some new members!

See you next year?

Next chapter meeting

Please join us for our first MCMBA chapter meeting of 2013. We've got a lot to talk about - trail day planning, 2013 races and events, Detroit Bike City, and some cool special initiatives.

Also, we're pleased to host a special guest for this meeting: Andy Williamson, our IMBA Director for the Great Lakes region. We've invited a number of our land manager partners to attend to take advantage of this opportunity, so it will be a great chance to mingle and share ideas.

Monday March 11th at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at Liberty Street Brewing.

Donate a Plank!

Long ago in an age shrouded by the fog of time, someone had an inspirational vision to help fund the development of some new bridges at Lakeshore Park with a "Buy a plank" program. For a small donation, a bridge plank was inscribed with the donors name. Today, every rider at Lakeshore still rides over these bridge planks, looking down to see familiar names - perhaps their own!

"How do I get a name on a bridge?"

It's been close to a decade since the last name was routed into a bridge plank at Lakeshore. A lot of new riders have come onto the scene over those years and fallen in love with the park, and we're asked from time to time if it would be possible to add a name of a husband, a wife, or other special someone in their life.

Now, we've got an answer for that!

Working together with the City of Novi, we'd like to announce an ongoing "Donate a Plank" program. For a donation of at least $25, we will inscribe your selected name into a blank plank on one of the bridges at Lakeshore Park. All of the proceeds will be used to improve the bike infrastructure at Lakeshore Park.

Want to participate? Please click on the "Donate" button on the mcmba.org website under "Get Involved", or just click here.

Please be sure to add "Lakeshore Plank" and up to 25 characters that you want inscribed in the "Dedication or Special Intentions" field on the donation form. That's it!
